Faith McNabnay is one of the eighteen textile and apparel designers showing their collection at the annual Capstone Collection Fashion Show on April 27. In the following interview with University Fashion Group, she reveals details of her upcoming collection “Fatale.”
JL: Tell me about yourself and the inspiration behind your collection.
FM: “Fatale” comes from femme fatale. I think it’s a trope that really speaks to me because I am a firm believer that beauty and strength can exist in one form. Within that I really try to gather references of classic femininity and infuse them with strength, edginess and a boldness that I think really reflects me as a designer and my personality overall.
JL: Tell me about your creative proces.
FM: I would say the most challenging part is the time management aspect of it all. It’s a lot to get done as one person. It can get very overwhelming and a little discouraging at times. But just being able to have other designers in the lab along with your models and inspiration, that really helps you keep moving towards that final goal.
JL: Tell me more about your different looks.
FM: I have a few sketches. I actually designed one with the model in mind, so this sketch is actually of her. It’s inspired by texture and playing on that femaninity. I really love the idea that she had an armor looking piece at the top, but I infused it with some lace, texture and beautiful draping to really show that duality.
JL: How do you feel about your collection being revealed on the runway?
FM: My designs will be featured on the runway. I have a ton of family and friends that are coming out to support and that’s so amazing, I’m definitely nervous. I don’t want to disappoint. But this has been the blood, sweat, and tears of my whole final semester here at UT and I’m so excited to share it with the world. I think that my passion will really come through and be able to see all the work I’ve put into this.
