Victoria Flores is a Textiles and Apparels major at UT Austin. Alongside having a very bubbly persona, Flores finds that this helps her towards her pursuit towards growth through pushing herself outside of her comfort zone. “Everything I do is to move forward and try something new,” said Flores. As a designer, she is still figuring out her own style and way of working, however she continually pursues news ideas and challenges in her creative process.
Beginning the process of Flore’s collection, she began by choosing colors and designs that she wanted to implement through fabrics, and from there she sketched out the looks for her collection. For her collection Flores really wants to hone in on mystical elements, and she mentions her admiration for the clothing pieces in the movie The Labyrinth. Consequently she finds lots of her inspiration for her designs from the 80s, which is shown through her work with feathers, soft materials, and an ethereal embodiment. Flores is taking a different approach with the selection of her pieces, using each design from her collection as an embodiment of a certain character.
“I find a lot of inspiration through things that are very fairy-like and elegant, but if you look closely they have a darker undertone,” said Flores when describing the contrasting nature of her designs.
